Project Description
The Massachusetts Family Literacy Consortium (MFLC) was formed in 1996 as part of the Building State Alliances project. The strategy developed under that project was to strengthen, expand and institutionalize family literacy throughout the State of Massachusetts. Under the Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative, Massachusetts will increase its emphasis on activities that are focused and targeted to measurable outcomes through the implementation of the goals listed above. The other key consortium effort will be to forge a key collaboration with the Reading and Literacy Partnership created under the Reading Excellence Act.
Invitational Priorities
- Using research on reading and literacy in program planning
- Implementing a professional development plan for staff
- Increasing the intensity of family literacy activities for school-age children (up to 7 years old)
- Improving local evaluation methods and practices
- Absolute Priority: Family Literacy Performance Indicators
