Hosting Fees and Packages

EPA's National Computer Center (NCC) in Research Triangle Park, NC houses all EPA public access and several Intranet and Extranet servers. Costs associated with hosting applications on these servers are paid for by the program offices who host Web sites through the Working Capital Fund (WCF).

Web Site and Application Hosting

The Office of Environmental Information (OEI) charges the following fees for static sites residing on EPA’s public access server:

Since dynamic sites are more complicated, OEI charges additional fees for hosting a Web application. At a minimum, the fees for hosting a Web application within the National Computer Center's shared hosting environment include:

Oracle and ColdFusion applications also may incur the following fees:

For more information and assistance in determining which fees apply to your Web site or platform, refer to OEI’s web and application hosting chart Entering Intranet or contact one of OEI’s web and application solutions service managers.

Web and Application Development

There are many ways to develop your application. You can do it yourself, hire an external contractor, or use one of OEI's contractors. The following services are available to you through OEI:

Technical Support/ Maintenance

Should your dynamic web application require more than 20 hours of technical support to put into production, you will need to acquire additional hours of technical support through the Working Capital Fund on a cost plus fixed fee basis. This support is available through the following service:

The cost of technical support and maintenance will depend on the type of application and the number of updates required. When developing your application, also request an estimate for maintenance support from your contractor.

Estimating The Cost

When estimating costs for your Web site or Web application, be sure to include the full life-cycle costs -- development, deployment, maintenance, and annual hosting costs.

The Working Capital Fund rates for EPA web and other services can be found at:

The best way to estimate your annual cost is to discuss your application with a member of the OEI web and application solutions team. Feel free to contact any of these individuals to discuss your proposed application.
