Regional Collaboration: Making the Great Lakes Greater
A Strategy to Restore and Protect the Great Lakes
In December 2004, the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration of National Significance (GLRC) was launched, creating a unique partnership of key members from federal, state, and local governments, tribes, and other stakeholders for the purpose of developing a strategic action plan. This strategic plan was intended to build upon the extensive regional efforts to date, working together toward a common goal of restoring and protecting the Great Lakes ecosystem for this and future generations.
An
Executive Committee made up of senior elected and appointed
officials from different levels of government has helped guide the
GLRC over the past year as the strategic plan has been developed.
Eight Strategy Teams, each focusing on a different issue affecting
the Great Lakes basin, began work in January 2005 to develop
recommendations for action. The plan has been
finalized and was released on December 12, 2005 in
Chicago, Illinois. To view the final strategy please go to
