Information For Germplasm Requestors

Qualified individuals may request germplasm from the National Clonal Germplasm Repository for Citrus & Dates. “Qualified individuals” refers to scientists, breeders, certification programs, etc. Germplasm may be distributed to private individuals at the discretion of the Curator. At this time, germplasm distributions are made gratis to for use in research or certification programs, with the Repository bearing the costs of the phytosanitary documents and shipping. Requestors may contribute shipping costs via their own accounts if they so desire. Private requestors may be required or requested to pay for shipping.

The germplasm requested is potentially available as budwood, seed, pollen, other plant parts, offshoots (date palms only), or nucleic acid. In most circumstances, we only distribute citrus budwood or other vegetative material from pathogen-tested sources. Under specific circumstances, we will distribute non-tested materials. Please contact the curator regarding these types of requests.

Distribution of germplasm may be subject to restriction by the requestor’s country or state government. An import permit may be necessary. Although we are able to request this information through USDA-APHIS, it is highly recommended that the requestor contact the appropriate phytosanitary authorities prior to requesting germplasm in order to determine what documents or events are necessary for importation of the germplasm. Note that our information sources do not include information on customs requirements. Information in this area is useful in ensuring that you receive your germplasm in a timely manner, so please determine any special customs requirements ahead of time.

In order to process germplasm requests, we need the following information:

Name

Affiliation

Address

Shipping address (if different; see below)

Phone

Fax

Email

Intended Use of Material

Port of Entry

Germplasm is generally shipped by DHL due to that carrier’s ability to handle international shipments of plant materials. Under specific circumstances, a different carrier may be utilized at the requestor’s request. Commercial shippers such as DHL require a physical address because they cannot deliver to a post office box. Therefore, this type of address is necessary for us to ship the material.

All policies are subject to change or revision.
