General Information

National Geospatial Program standards documents can be viewed on-line or downloaded to your system free of charge. Electronic replications of the standards documents found at this Web site are available in Portable Document Format (PDF).

Viewing

Documents that are available in Adobe's PDF format require the latest version of the free Adobe Reader or the full version of Adobe Acrobat to view, navigate, or print. When installing the Adobe Reader on your system, the installation program will also install a plug-in into your browser, so PDF documents can be viewed within your browser. For the best viewing experience on your system, you may want to experiment with the various settings found in the "Preferences" for Adobe Reader and the full version of Adobe Acrobat.

Get Adobe Reader

From the Table of Contents, select the desired standards topic and click. A table indicating the standards documents for that topic, a brief description of the standard, number of pages, file size, and version date will display on your system. Documents that are available in PDF will have a button on the right indicating the available format. Click on the button to view the document.

Downloading

Copying Text or Graphics

Text and (or) graphics within a PDF document maybe copied and then pasted into other applications. If you are using an Adobe Reader 4.0x or the full version of Acrobat 4.0x, use either the "Text Select Tool," "Column Select Tool," or "Graphics Select Tool" on the Acrobat toolbar, select the item you want to copy, then right-click your mouse and select copy. This places the text, column, or graphic into your clipboard so you can paste into other applications. This can be done whether you are using the Adobe Reader 4.0x or the full version of Acrobat 4.0x as a WEB browser plug-in or as a stand alone application. However, if you are using an Adobe Reader 3.0x or the full version of Acrobat 3.0x, you must first download the PDF file to your system. The 3.0x versions of the software do not support copying text or graphics from a PDF document when using as a WEB browser plug-in. Once the PDF document is on your local system, open the document, then you can use either the "Select Text" or "Select Graphics" tool, select the item you want to copy, and then copy to place into your clipboard.

Some documents have approval for use by USGS contractors and for USGS internal production. These particular documents are labeled "DRAFT FOR IMPLEMENTATION." All draft documents are subject to change without notice!
