As the Onalaska Field Station's Fisheries Specialist, Andy Bartels directs the field station's Fisheries component. Andy trains technicians, temporary employees, and others to collect data, calibrate and maintain equipment, verify data, operate equipment, analyze data, present data at meetings, and write reports. Andy does all these things himself as well, and in addition, writes special reports, analyzes fisheries data in-depth, interacts with the public, oversees special research projects, participates in habitat project planning, and assists USGS quality assurance/quality control and fisheries database management.

He holds an Associate of Science Degree from Wisconsin Lutheran College (1985-Milwaukee, WI), a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (1987-Water Resources/Fisheries) and a Master of Science Degree (1995-Biology-emphasis in Fisheries Management) from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (La Crosse, WI). Andy has been with the Onalaska Field Station since 1989, and is one of the original LTRMP fish component staff members. Andy's research interests include winter fish sampling, centrarchid ecology, and fish/habitat associations. In his spare time Andy enjoys his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and sports.
