Jerry's academic credentials include a B.S. in Biology and two years toward an M.S. in Technical Communication. As a Writer-Editor with the USGS Publishing Network, colocated with the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center, Jerry edits scientific and general products and publications and assists researchers and others prepare manuscripts for outside publication.

Before coming to USGS, Jerry worked as a Technical Publications Editor at the USFWS Office of Information Transfer (Fort Collins, Colorado) and with National Park Service (Fort Collins). His background in writing and editing includes work with scientific reports and books, service and user manuals, educational material, and advertising.

Jerry's work experience also includes computer programmer, systems analyst, and consultant on micro-, mini-, and mainframe-computers, and on small to medium sized networks. He has taught copy editing, layout and design, technical writing, and desktop publishing, as well as computer programming at the university level and technical schools.

Jerry has a long-time interest in the environment and nature and has worked as a wilderness guide in the Colorado Rockies. He enjoys photography, writing, hiking, camping, cooking, and studying history and religion. Jerry is married, has two children and three grandchildren, and lives in Onalaska, Wisconsin.
