Lower Dam boat ramp temporarily closed

Effective Thursday, July 10, 2008 the boat ramp at the Lower Dam Recreation Area will be closed. The water level in Lake Lowell has dropped to a point where it is no longer safe to launch boats at this site. Launching boats at such low water levels can damage boats, motors, trailers, and vehicles. In addition, the water at this location is not deep enough to float a boat off of most trailers. The boat ramp at the eastern end of the Upper Dam, just off Iowa Avenue, remains open.

West Upper Dam boat ramp temporarily closed

A dump truck dumps gravel on the berm at the Upper DamThe Upper Embankment at Lake Lowell is being repaired until spring 2009. The boat ramp on the west end of the Upper Dam is therefore closed until at least spring 2009.

The other boat ramps at Lake Lowell remain open. As there is limited parking at the ramp at the east end of the Upper Dam, boaters are encouraged to use the boat ramp at the Lower Dam Recreation Area on Riverside Road.
