Objective:
Develop mass rearing methods for the Arundo wasp, a key candidate biological control agent of the invasive weed, giant reed, Arundo donax.
Approach:
Greenhouse rearing facilities will be used at the University of Texas, Brackenridge Field Laboratory to develop rearing techniques for the Arundo wasp, which has become adventively established in Travis County, Texas. Local Arundo and Arundo wasps will be used to initiate colonies and develop mass rearing techniques for transfer to USDA.
