ILLEGAL ALIEN SENTENCED TO SERVE 17 YEARS FOR ROLE IN CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE METHAMPHETAMINE, ILLEGALLY RE-ENTERING THE UNITED STATES

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Javier Valerio Sera, age 25, an illegal alien from Mexico, was sentenced in District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia to serve 17 years in Federal Prison and five years of supervised release thereafter, for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and illegally re-entering the United States of America.

“Today’s sentence is a great example of our justice system sending a clear message to all the drug dealers that infect our communities,” U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said today. “If you deal illegal drugs, you will be arrested and you will go to prison.”

Sera pleaded guilty to two counts related to the distribution of methamphetamine and illegally re-entering the United States of America on January 10, 2008. The defendant was indicted on those charges in June of 2006.

According to the guilty plea, Sera admitted to one count of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute more than 500 grams of a substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine and more than 50 grams of actual methamphetamine.

In addition, Sera pleaded guilty to one felony count of illegally re-entering the United States of America, after deportation.

Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, Don Wolthuis prosecuted the case.
