DRUG DEALER SENTENCED TO 70 MONTHS

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Walter Douglas Moore, age 48, of Culpeper, Virginia, was sentenced Monday March 24, 2008, in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville.

“Getting drug dealers out of our communities is one of the top priorities of my office,” said U.S. Attorney John Brownlee today. “This sentences assures safer streets for our children and our neighbors.”

Moore was sentenced to 70 months incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release for his role in a drug conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was indicted, along with his co-conspirator, David Cheek, age 24, also of Culpeper, in July 2007. Both men pleaded guilty on December 14, 2007.

Cheek is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19, 2008. In addition to the cocaine charges, Cheek pleaded guilty to possession of crack and ecstacy the intent to distribute. Cheek also pleaded guilty to possessing a .40 caliber Desert Eagle semi-automatic pistol and a .32 caliber Harrington and Richardson revolver during his drug crimes.

This sentencing marks the third defendant from the Culpeper County area that has been sentenced in recent weeks in connection with drug charges.

On March 17, 2008, David Greene, age, 53 and David Howell, age 26, both of Culpeper, were sentenced for their roles in a crack cocaine conspiracy. Greene was ordered to serve 78 months imprisonment and Howell was sentenced to 84 months. Both men must serve a period of supervised released following their incarceration. Greene and Howell pleaded guilty on December 18, 2007.

The investigation of these cases was conducted by the Blue Ridge Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Agency for the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia. Assistant United States Attorney Rusty Fitzgerald prosecuted the case.
