ORANGE, VIRGINIA FELON SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Joshua Ryan May, age 22, of Orange, Virginia, was sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville by the Honorable Norman K. Moon.
May, who pled guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm on November 19, 2007, was sentenced to 18 months of federal imprisonment and a period of supervised release thereafter.
“Mr. May was a convicted felon who illegally possessed a firearm and for that action he must be punished,” United States Attorney John Brownlee said today. “This defendant needs to learn that if he continues to break the law he will continue to face prosecution for his crimes.”
The charges arose out of an investigation involving the controlled purchase of a .38 caliber revolver which May attempted to sell to a police informant.
The investigation of the case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Nancy S. Healey prosecuted the case.
