SECOND MEMBER OF CRACK COCAINE DISTRIBUTION CONSPIRACY
SENTENCED TO 100 MONTH PRISON TERM

Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced today that David Cheek, age 24, of Culpeper, Virginia was sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville for charges related to the distribution of crack cocaine.

“Ridding our streets of the poison these drug dealers force onto our children and our neighbors is one of the top priorities of all law enforcement agencies,” Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley said today. “These sentencings ensure that our streets are a little bit safer tonight than they were last night.”

Cheek was sentenced today to 100 months of Federal Imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year period of supervised release. Cheek, along with his co-conspirator, Walter Douglas Moore, age 48, of Culpeper, was indicted in July 2007 and charged with conspiracy to distribute more than five grams of crack cocaine. In addition, Cheek was charged with being in possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking activity, specifically a .40 caliber Desert Eagle semi-automatic pistol and a .32 caliber Harrington and Richardson revolver.

Both men pled guilty on December 14, 2007. In March, Moore was sentenced to 70 months incarceration, followed by three years of supervised release for his role in the conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The investigation of this case was conducted by the Blue Ridge Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration for the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia. Assistant United States Attorney Rusty Fitzgerald and Special Assistant United States Attorney Ronald Huber prosecuted the case.
