Terminal 117
The Terminal 117 Early Action Area is on the west side of the Lower Duwamish Waterway, about 3.5 miles from the southern tip of Harbor Island, which is near downtown Seattle. The land portion of the site includes the former Malarkey Asphalt Company location and other property owned by the Port of Seattle.

In 2000, EPA oversaw the removal of soil contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from the land, including some land formerly owned by Malarkey Asphalt.

In 2003, EPA named Terminal 117 as an "early action area" of the Lower Duwamish Waterway Superfund site. Early actions are being done in highly contaminated areas of the waterway, where early sediment cleanup may significantly reduce the risk that the sediments pose to the health of people and the environment.

As part of the early action work, the Port of Seattle, under EPA oversight, is investigating the sediment contamination at Terminal 117.
