USGS Briefs Department of Defense on African Dust Study

On August 1st, USGS post-doctorate/microbiologist Dale W. Griffin and
Center Chief Lisa Robbins
(SPFC) briefed the DOD Office of the Special Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense
(Personnel and Readiness) for Gulf War Illnesses, Medical Readiness and Military Deployments.
The subject was the status of Dale and Gene Shinn's African Desert dust research
project. The DOD
Office, whose focus is protecting military personnel from environmental hazards, was interested in
current data and future research plans.
