Celebrating 100 Years Sequoia National Forest 1908 - 2008. If the land could speak, it would tell many stories of Native Americans, cattle, gold prospecting, lumber camps, sheep drives, early day resorts, hot springs, pack stations, and isolated forest guard stations and fire lookouts. One hundred years ago on July 1908, the Sequoia National Forest was formed and the Forest Service became responsible for the perpetuation of the natural and cultural assets within the national forest boundary. Visit our Centennial Celebration pages and learn more about the history of the Forest.

The Sequoia National Forest and Giant Sequoia National Monument are named for the giant sequoia, the world's largest tree. The landscape is as spectacular as its 38 groves of giant sequoia. Majestic granite monoliths, glacier-torn canyons, roaring whitewater, and lush meadows await your discovery at the southern end of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. more»
