Research Project: USE OF DDG AS A BIOCOMPOSITE FABRICATION MATERIAL

Location: Brookings, South Dakota

Project Number: 5447-41000-002-04
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 01, 2006
End Date: Aug 31, 2011

Objective:
The overall goal of this research project is to utilize distillers grains as a biocomposite material for manufacturing and fabrication. This novel application has potential for significantly higher value use compared to traditional use as a livestock feed material.

Approach:
The proposed research will consist of two phases. First, materials will be evaluated to select acceptable/optimal binders with which to fabricate DDG-based biocomposite products. Second, the research will investigate and develop prototype manufacturing systems for large volume production of DDG products.
