Building Bridges with Future NeighborsNational Marine Fisheries Service Regional Office
Two employees from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southeast Regional Office headquarters visited the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Center for Coastal and Watershed Studies in St. Petersburg, FL, on December 3. PowerPoint presentations explaining the roles and responsibilities of NMFS and its parent agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), were given to increase the number of cooperative projects between the USGS and NMFS. The NMFS Southeast Regional Office headquarters plans to move to the University of South Florida (USF) campus in downtown St. Petersburg in 2005. Approximately 53 USGS employees attended the presentations. Lisa Robbins (USGS center director) had presented an overview of the USGS Florida Integrated Science Center (FISC) to a NMFS group in August 2004 (see Sound Waves article, National Marine Fisheries Service Regional Office to Become USGS Neighbor in St. Petersburg, FL). To reciprocate the favor, Buck Sutter (Deputy Regional Administrator of the NMFS Southeast Regional Office) and Michael Henderson (NMFS Regional Coordinator) spoke to USGS employees.
