Ensure that complete, accurate and timely traffic safety data are collected, analyzed and made available for decision-making at the national, state and local levels to reduce crashes, deaths and injuries on our nation’s highways. Mission: Purpose: Goals:
To develop and direct a national program effort for establishing integrated highway and traffic safety records systems in states to be characterized by high standards of data collection and an expanded role for traffic records data as a management tool for highway safety program decision making, research, and evaluation activities.
To assist our customers in assessing the quality, needs, and uses of their current traffic records data systems and components; to provide appropriate tools and resources to enable them to carry out planning, development, and evaluative activities. Methods and procedures include technologies, best practices, system organization, and communications protocols.
To develop and promote, in concert with our partners, technical standards for data collection, analytic methods, and highway safety program applications.
To expand our participation in collaborative and cooperative efforts with other DOT Offices, the states, and with public and private organizations to ensure that the traffic records and highway safety communities stay informed of technology advances and involved in the development and application of model traffic records data systems. |
