Research Project: PHYSICAL MODEL STUDY OF EMBANKMENT FLOODWALL DOWNSTREAM PROTECTION METHODS

Location: Hydraulic Engineering Research

Project Number: 6217-13000-008-29
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jan 02, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2008

Objective:
The objectives of this cooperative research project is to develop design criteria for scour protection downstream of floodwalls.

Approach:
ARS-HERU, and OSU Senior Design Students will work together to document the present state of science related to scour protection methods downstream of floodwalls. The work will be carried out by conducting physical scale model tests in a flume at the HERU on scour protection methods downstream of a simulated floodwall. Standard physical modeling research methods will be utilized in conducting the tests. A generalized approach for scour protection downstream of a floodwall will be developed based on test results.
