2005 Work Day

Eighty-four students from Lebanon High School participated in a volunteer work day on May 4, 2005 to raise money for an international program called Operation Day's Work (ODW). Local families and businesses hired teams of two or more students to help with spring chores: painting, clearing, raking, window-washing, yardwork, filing, typing, organizing,. Ten students, directed by Meaghan White, conducted a carwash at the Mobil Station on Rte. 12A which earned over $300. The total community contributions to the Lebanon High School ODW effort was $2500.

Operation Day's Work is a student-run organization that seeks to improve the lives of young people around the world through education. This year ODW will support a project in the Phu An village in the An Giang Province of Viet Nam. This project is sponsored by Heifer International, an organization which works with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. Heifer Viet Nam hopes to increase the income and education of low-income girls and their families in the Phu An village in Viet Nam.

There is an internet website, www.lebanon.k12.nh.us/lhs/odw.htm, which provides information at Lebanon High School. In addition, there is a slide show designed by the ODW organizational team, which provides educational information about Heifer Vietnam and our current ODW efforts.

Operation Day's Work hopes to promote an awareness and inspire student initiative for improving lives around the world.
