United States Institute of Peace Essay Contest

This annual essay contest awards scholarships to winners!

President's Student Service Scholarships

Each high school in the country may select one junior or senior to receive a $1,000 scholarship for outstanding service to the community. The Corporation for National Service provides $500 for each scholarship matched with $500 from the community. Scholarship recipients must have served at least 100 hours within a 12-month period. In addition to the scholarship, students receive the President's Student Service Award gold pin, as well as a presidential certificate and a letter from the President. President's Student Service Awards

Youth ages 5 to 25 who contribute at least 100 hours of service to the community in a 12-month period are eligible for the President's Student Service Award. Students may be certified by schools, colleges, or community organizations and will receive a specially designed gold pin with the presidential seal, a presidential certificate, and a letter from the President. Youth ages 5 to 14 who perform 50 hours of community service within a 12-month period may receive a silver pin with the presidential seal, as well as a presidential certificate and a letter from the President. National Service-Learning Leader Schools Initiative

Outstanding middle schools and high schools will receive Presidential recognition through the National Service-Learning Leader Schools program. Sponsored by the Corporation for National Service, this program will recognize up to 100 middle schools and 100 high schools for their exemplary integration of student service into the curriculum and life of the school during the 1999-2000 school year.
