CWC Regional Market Development Assistance - JTR 1997
The Pacific NorthWest Economic Region's (PNWER) CWC (the Clean Washington Center), is providing technical and business assistance to Alaska, Idaho and Montana to increase local and regional market capacity, waste diversion, and job creation and retention. All PNWER states and provinces will gain through the development of more robust markets in the region and knowledge acquired from these projects that can be reapplied in rural areas throughout the region.

Description:

The proposed project emphasizes the development of local self-reliance based on proven and innovative new uses of recycled materials.

The project goals resulting from these cooperative efforts include:

• job creation and retention in small businesses in the recycling sector
• increased diversion of recycled materials
• increased utilization of recycled materials
• higher and more stable prices for recycled commodities
• apply project learnings and successes to future projects in rural regions and states

Team Members include:

The CWC, in partnership with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have developed a series of best practices in recycling and market development techniques for several recycled commodities. As such, CWC serves as a national center for recycling technology development and information dissemination. CWC engineers and business staff have vast experience in processing and manufacturing of recycled materials for local end-use markets in Washington state and can empower local recyclers, processors, and end-users in other states to accomplish the same. CWC business specialists are experienced with overcoming agency roadblocks and with economic modeling to motivate action. This repository of knowledge and experience will be made available to participating states to accomplish projects that require technical and economic sophistication. The existing project knowledge and experience of the CWC will minimize project costs by avoiding reinvention of information and processes to accomplish the desired goals.
