Research Project:
FURROW DIKING TO IMPROVE ROW CROP IRRIGATION EFFICIENCY ON THE MACON RIDGE
Location: National Peanut Research Lab
Project Number: 6604-13210-003-03
Project Type:
Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Feb 19, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2012
Objective:
Determine if furrow diking will improve water capture and irrigation efficiency in Macon Ridge soils.
Approach:
Furrow diking practices will be implemented and monitored in row crops in on the Macon Ridge of Louisiana. Soil water potential, crop yield, and irrigation efficiency will be measured, data will be collected and recorded by cooperators at Louisiana State University. Preliminary data suggest furrow irrigation is more efficient in this region and will result in fewer irrigations required per season.
