- ARS Scientists invited to visit Northwest nursery industry and researchers
Scientists from the Application Technology Research Unit traveled to Oregon June 2-6. Research Leader Charles Krause and fellow ATRU scientists James Altland, Richard Derksen, Jonathan Frantz, Mike Reding, and Heping Zhu were invited to shared their nursery and greenhouse research experiences with nursery crop producers near Portland, Oregon and to learn about knowledge gaps and research needs. The ATRU staff also visited with ARS staff at the USDA Horticultural Lab Corvallis and Oregon State University staff at the North Willamette Research/Extension Center to discuss research programs and to identify possible areas of collaboration ATRU staff will return to the Northwest later this year to demonstrate the effectiveness of different spraying practices and to establish field test research programs.
- Dr. Zhu visits Belgium for Crop Protection Symposium
May 20, 2008 Dr. Heping Zhu participated in the 60th International Symposium on Crop Protection in Ghent, Belgium. In addition to serving as Chair for the Application Technology Session, Dr. Zhu presented a paper on “Evaporation and deposition coverage of single droplets on various waxy surfaces”. Representatives from 28 countries shared information on new developments in biological control of plan pathogens, phytopathology, nematology, agricultural entomology, integrated pest management, application technology and other subject areas. Dr. Zhu and the rest of the scientists with the Application Technology Research Unit look forward to the collaborative opportunities made possible through this exchange of international expertise in the field of crop protection.
