All the images on this website belong in the "Public Domain" - no one can claim copyright to any images or data contained on this website. They are free to be used, enjoyed, and reproduced for any purpose. However, we request that publishers and webmasters who use these images include: "Source: U.S. Geological Survey" with the image. Historic photographs are reproduced from photography from the Powell Expedition (1870's) and from early stereographic imagery from Yellowstone (1890's) for which the statutes of copyright have long since expired. Aerial views are early USGS aerial photography. All modern photographs on the web pages were modified from original digital photography taken by Philip Stoffer (1995 to present).
