Research Project:

Location: Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging
Project Number: 1950-51520-008-03
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Oct 01, 2005
End Date: Sep 30, 2007
Objective:
Analyze serum vitamin B6 data collected in the 2003-2004 NHANES to estimate deficiencies and toxicities of specific nutrients in the population and subgroups, providing population reference data, estimating the contribution of diet, supplements and other factors to serum levels of nutrients.
Approach:
Using NHANES 2003-2004 serum Vitamin B6 data, clean and statistically analyze to present reference ranges and descriptive statistics for serum vitamin B6. estimate the prevalence of vitamin B6 deficiency in various segments of the population and estimate the strengths of associations between demographic factors and vitamin B6 deficiency, evaluate associations between vitamin B6 intake and biochemical vitamin B6 status, evaluate associations between high protein intake, oral contraceptive use and hormone replacement therapy and vitamin B6 status, assess modicfication of these associations between demographic factors and vitamin B6 status by dietary intake and use of vitamin B6 supplements.
