Research Project:
DIETARY STUDIES TO INVESTIGATE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN METABOLISM AND RISK OF DISEASE
Location: Food Components and Health Laboratory
Project Number: 1235-51530-008-01
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: May 27, 2004
End Date: May 27, 2009
Objective:
The overall objective of this agreement is to collaborate in sample analysis, and design and performance of investigations to examine the relationship between dietary intake, metabolism, and physiologic functions as they relate to the risk of disease and promoting good health.
Approach:
Through the use of a variety of different types of feeding and nutrition studies (e.g., controlled diets, ad libitum diets, physical activity interventions), samples will be collected for analysis of a wide variety of risk factors associated with disease, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity. In addition, samples will also be analyzed from studies designed and conducted to investigate the metabolism or physiologic action of specific nutrients or phytochemicals. Data from these studies will provide a scientific basis for dietary recommendations.
