Procedure Upon Receipt of Letter of Authority --
Obtaining
the Court Order

Upon receiving a letter of authority to seek an order to compel
testimony, the United States Attorney will prepare a written motion and
order for
submission to the court. The court's function in reviewing the government's
request for immunity is ministerial. In re Perlin, 589 F.2d 260 (7th
Cir.
1978); United States v. Frans, 697 F.2d 188 (7th Cir. 1983),
cert.
denied, 464 U.S. 828 (1983). The letter of authority may be
presented to
the court ex parte.
