Statute of Limitations and Speedy Trial Act

Recognizing the delays inherent in securing evidence from
abroad, Congress
has enacted provisions for suspending the statute of limitations
and the
requirements of the Speedy Trial Act during the pendency of a
formal request for
international judicial assistance. However, the suspensive effect
is not
automatic. See 18 U.S.C. §§ 3161(h)(9) (Speedy
Trial Act) and
3292 (statute of limitations).
