Partner Profile The City of Albuquerque, New Mexico, joined the Green Power Partnership in 2008 as a demonstration of its commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1990, Albuquerque has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from city operations by 58 percent and from city landfills by 73 percent. Twenty percent of the city's electricity is derived from wind power, five city swimming pools are installing solar heating systems, and the city landfill converts landfill gas into energy. Albuquerque also established the nation's first municipal capital budget set-aside dedicated to energy reduction and renewable energy implementation.
