Community Profile On February 20, 2007 Santa Clara's City Council decided to issue a bold challenge to all residents and businesses in the city: "Ten percent of the utility customers should be purchasing green power by the end of 2007." By January 1, 2008 they had achieved 8.7% enrollment and the community continues enrollment in the Santa Clara Green Power program. Santa Clara is now an EPA Green Power Community and expects to reach 10% participation in 2008. "Santa Clara is known for its concern for the environment, so it is wonderful to receive national recognition for our ongoing commitment to renewable energy", says Patricia Mahan, Mayor for the City of Santa Clara. "This is a true community effort spearheaded by our municipal utility, and supported by the thousands of residents and businesses participating in the Santa Clara Green Power program."
