Research Project: ACOUSTIC TECHNOLOGIES FOR EVALUATING CATFISH PRODUCTION

Location: Catfish Genetics Research

Project Number: 6402-31000-008-15
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 01, 2004
End Date: Jun 30, 2009

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to continue development and technology transfer of the AquaScanner catfish sonar as well as to improve the accuracy of the unit. This project will provide the tools and procedures to assess catfish populations in-situ. This project supports the unit objective to develop new equipment and technologies to improve profitability of channel catfish farming.

Approach:
Field experiments will be performed under a variety of conditions to provide a significant database to refine counting models. These variations will include pond size, stocking densities, fish size, and weather conditions. The long term reliability of the units will also be analyzed.
