Balanced Rock is located along the main park road near the Windows Section. Note the difference between the wavy shale, siltstone, and sandstone layers of the lower Dewey Bridge beds in relation to the more massive Slickrock sandstone above. Both units are and are part of the Entrada Formation and are marine in origin, formed from sediments deposited in a shallow seaway that invaded the region west of the ancestral Rocky Mountains.
