On October 11, 2008, Nikola Vitas walked into Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, Colorado—along with over fifty of his classmates from Boulder High School—to attend the state’s first Model United Nations Conference of the new school year. Later that day, he walked out with a first-place award.
Community Connections, a USAID program administered by American Councils in Central Asia and Belarus, offers homestay-based practical training opportunities in the U.S. for entrepreneurs, local government officials, legal professionals, non-governmental organization leaders and other professionals. Upon return to their countries, many Community Connections alumni are able to use their U.S. experiences to advance their careers and communities.
Teachers to Teachers: Language, Technology, Math, and Science teachers currently participating in a professional development workshop at the University of Montana in Missoula were featured in the Missoula paper. The teachers, nearing the end of their 3-week workshop, have visited local high schools, attended numerous workshops and seminars, conducted field research and travelled throughout Montana during their program.
