AMIDEAST announces U.S. University Application Workshops
Muscat, Oman—October 13, 2008.
AMIDEAST will host a series of three workshops in the coming weeks that provide students with in-depth information on how to apply to U.S. universities. Free and open to the public, the workshops will be conducted on October 23, 30 and November 6 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at AMIDEAST's office in Qurum. They will be led by Rebecca Grappo, a professional educator with over 14 years of experience living in the Middle East. A member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC) and the Overseas Association of College Admissions Counselors (OACAC), Ms. Grappo has worked as a consultant for AMIDEAST on several education projects and returns to share her experience and expertise on American colleges and universities.
In the first session, "The College Admissions Game: How to Make Everyone a Winner," Ms. Grappo will explore the multitude of options that exist for higher education in the United States. In addition, she will discuss fact versus fiction regarding U.S. university admissions. Participants will come away with a new understanding of the university admissions process and how there is a university for everyone.
The second session, "So Many Choices … How Do I Know Where to Apply?" will enable participants to survey the 3,800 accredited colleges and universities in the U.S., determine where to apply, and assess their chances of being accepted. The session will equip participants – students as well as parents – with the tools to evaluate universities and will explain how to conduct virtual visits.
The final session, "The University Essay or Personal Statement" will provide participants with insights into one of the most important factors in the college admissions process, but also one of the most challenging. Ms. Grappo will discuss the elements of a quality university essay and how to get started on the writing process. She will introduce techniques for writing an essay that will capture the attention of the admissions committee and enable them to get a sense of who the applicant is.
Ms. Grappo founded RNG International Educational Consultants, LLC, to provide students and families with guidance on American colleges and universities. She has the distinction of being the only Certified Education Planner and member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association in the Middle East.
Because space is limited to 15 people per session, interested participants are encouraged to register ahead with AMIDEAST by calling 2456-1727 or emailing oman@amideast.org |
