PROGRAMS: Rebuilding Lebanon |
The United States announced a $230 million commitment to Lebanon for humanitarian, reconstruction and security assistance on August 21, 2006. In addition, President Bush has requested $770 million for an economic and security assistance package valued at more than $1 billion. Mudeirej Bridge Rebuilding the bridge will restore one of Lebanon's most important commercial links between Beirut and Chtoura, toward Lebanon's eastern border. It will stimulate trade and economic growth essential for Lebanon's financial recovery. Contrack International, a U.S.-based company with Lebanese and American management, won the $30 million project. Contrack International uses three Lebanese firms to do the work. They will employ approximately 150 Lebanese for the design and construction. Bringing hope to those in need |
