Welcome to the USAID/Ghana web site.

We are pleased to provide you with information on our current direction and activities in Ghana. This site will provide you information about our Mission's main programs in democracy and governance, economic growth, health, and basic education, in addition to Food for Peace. We also provide you with details and stories of how children, women, men, families and communities in Ghana make effective use of USAID support that results in better standard and quality of life for Ghanaians.

USAID's vision is to empower Ghanaians to build a prosperous nation. You will read about how we are assisting key governance institutions to be more responsive to citizens' requests and encouraged civic participation in the country's democratic process. We are supporting farmers in their effort to increase production and quality of produce, enabling them to sell into foreign markets. Our activities to enhance quality health care includes: expanding access to health services, protecting children against malaria and other infectious diseases; supporting family planning; and increasing institutional capacity to plan and manage health programs. In basic education, USAID/Ghana assists girls' education and promotes community participation in schools, improves reading skills and prevents the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The success of our programs and activities since 1957 has been achieved through the combined efforts of the dedicated staff of USAID, the Government of Ghana and implementing partners, working in partnership with the people of Ghana. We are pleased that as a result of good policies, Ghana has become one of the better performing developing countries in Africa, and deemed eligible last year for additional assistance in the form of the US Government's Millennium Challenge Account investment.

I hope this site will answer many of your questions about USAID/Ghana. Please do not hesitate to contact USAID/Ghana staff with suggestions or requests for more details on any topic.
