Federal Highway Administration
Connecticut Division
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) was established in 1967 as one of the operating administrations of the United States Department of Transportation (US DOT). The Agency has been in existence since 1893, and prior to 1967 was known by other names such as the Office of Road Inquiry and the Bureau of Public Roads. Through the years our name has changed, but our dedication to transportation in America has remained the same.
It is FHWA's Vision to create the best transportation system in the world for the American people through proactive leadership, innovation and excellence in service.
Our Mission is to provide leadership, expertise, resources and information to continually improve the quality of our Nation's highway system and its intermodal connections. We undertake this mission in cooperation with all our partners to enhance the country's economic vitality, quality of life and the environment.
