Objective:
Develop safe and effective biological control agents for Waterhyacinth.
Approach:
Travel and survey regularly in the native range of waterhyacinth, especially in areas not previously surveyed, collect, catalogue, and colonize natural enemies in overseas laboratory. Send voucher specimens to morphometric and molecular taxonomists to confirm identities. Conduct preliminary no-choice feeding, oviposition, and development studies to assess relative specificity of agents and identify future efforts. Hand carry or ship agents directly to IPRL.
