Description:
Abstract:
This data contains the unbuffered flight lines that correspond with the Insect and Disease survey for 1999. The flight lines come from two sources, either hand drawn on the base maps in flight and then "heads up" digitized using USGS digital topographic maps as background or collected as GPS waypoints in flight and then brought into arcview as a coverage. The two types of information were appended in arc/info as one layer then edge- matched. This flightline was not buffered to show line of sight; however, it contains attributes for the date of the flight as well as the surveyors. Refer to "fline99" for the buffered flightline.

Purpose:
This data was created to identify areas flown, with attributes, that correspond with the 1999 Insect and Disease aerial survey information.

Supplemental_Information:
Procedures_Used: Flight lines were "heads up" digitized in Arc/View by UTM zones for 3, 4, 5, 6, and the south-central & interior portion of zone 7. The southeast portion (zones 9, 8, & part of 7) were created from a GPS file. The A/V shapefiles were converted to A/I using the Arc command SHAPEARC. Fuzzy tolerance for all zone files were checked and adjusted to .05 if needed. All zones were reprojected into ALBERS using the Arc command PROJECT COVER. All zones were then combined using the Arc command APPEND LINEFEATURES.

Edgematching across UTM zones was done in Arc/Edit by moving vertices as needed. Made sure fuzzy tolerance was .05 then built coverage.

Process_Description:
Surveys were conducted by USFS FHP personnel and ADNR entomologist. The flight lines for south-central and interior Alaska are recorded at the time of capture on 1:250,000 scale USGS topographic-bathymetric series maps. Flight lines on the base maps are digitized in UTM zones into Arc/View using USGS 1:250,000 DRG's of the topographic-bathymetric series maps as background. The flight lines for southeast Alaska are recorded at the time of capture into a Global Positioning System database. The database table is brought into Arc/View as an EVENT THEME and saved as a shapefile. All files were reprojected into Albers Alaskan in Arc, Appended in Arc, and Edgematched in Arc/Edit to create one complete database. As a QC check, frequencies were run for miles of flight line and acres of buffered flight line.
