Research Project:
MONITORING FOR TOLERANCE TO BT PROTEINS IN TOBACCO BUDWORM IN THE U.S. COTTON BELT
Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit
Project Number: 6402-22000-044-02
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Mar 01, 2006
End Date: Apr 01, 2009
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is to evaluate the development of resistance to Bt insecticides in bollworm and tobacco budworm in areas where the adoption of Bt cotton is over 50%.
Approach:
Pheromone and light traps will be used to collect adult moths, and field collections will be made on suitable bollworm and tobacco budworm hosts. Insects will be shipped by cooperators to the Southern Insect Management Research Unit for bioassay. The bioassay for Bt resistance will involve testing these insects through a diagnostic concentration.
