Research Project:
DEVELOP AND ESTABLISH AN INTERNATIONAL MOLECULAR DATABASE FOR THEOBROMA CACAO
Project Number: 0500-00008-001-33
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jan 05, 2005
End Date: Jan 04, 2010
Objective:
To establish and sustainan international molecular database for Theobroma cacao which will be both internet accessible and available through the distribution of CD/ROMs.
Approach:
The system will be managed and developed by CIRAD in consultation with the partners described. The system will be known as CocoaGenDB. The molecular database system will provide an interface between the molecular and phenotypic traits of Theobroma. The project represents a long-term effort, at least 15 years in duration. CIRAD will maintain a working/advisory group on systems development.
Develop software to store and retrieve complex biological/molecular data; develop specialized data visualization tools; develop modules to accommodate the arrival of at least 200,000 sequences from the cocoa genetics consortium; develop unigene sets.
