Stream temperature data are being compiled as part of the Puget Sound National Water-Quality Assessment Program. Elevated water temperatures can negatively affect aquatic organisms by altering food digestion rates, oxygen requirements, and sensitivity to toxic compounds; and hence, the interest in monitoring and tracking trends in water temperature. These data are for July and August, typically the warmest months in the Puget Sound Basin. Included in the data set are all available data for the years 1988-1998 collected by the U.S. Geological Survey, other agencies, and tribes which have given permission to publish the data. Summary statistics and daily minimum, maximum and mean temperatures are presented.
