Wade Casey
Bridge Management Engineer
FHWA, Office of Asset Management

On May 1, 2005, Wade F. Casey, P.E. became the bridge management engineer for the FHWA's Office of Asset Management in the Office of Infrastructure. He is responsible for bridge management, bridge maintenance and bridge preservation activities. Wade is also responsible for leading FHWA's effort to implement bridge management systems across the Nation, working to improve bridge preservation procedures on State and locally owned structures, and leading the development of cost effective technology for Infrastructure Asset Management.

Wade previously worked for over 8 years in the FHWA's, Federal Lands Highway Program, and was responsible for the management and delivery of the $78 million IRR Bridge Program. He also developed the project selection fund allocation procedures and regulation (23 CFR 661) for the IRR Bridge Program. While with Federal Lands, he also served as team leader on the NBIS rewrite team that revised the National Bridge Inspection Standards regulation. He coauthored the NBIS Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, NPRM and final rule (23 CFR 650 subpart C). Wade previously served on the NBIS SI&A Coding Guide rewrite team.

Prior to joining the FHWA in 1996, Wade worked four years as structural engineer for the Department of Interior, where he was program manager for the $77 million "not less than 1%" Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program. Prior to that he worked 13 years as a U.S. Navy diver-engineer where he was part of a two-person team that conceived the idea, created the process and developed procedures for the U. S. Navy's worldwide, Underwater Inspection Program. Prior to that for roughly four years, Wade worked as a General Engineer for the U.S. Navy and was responsible for technological forecasting for integrated logistics support activities.

Wade holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering (not oceanography) from Florida Atlantic University, is a graduate of the U. S. Navy's Deep Sea Salvage School and is a graduate of the U. S. Navy's Logistics Management Intern Program. He is a licensed professional engineer in Virginia.

Wade has received numerous outstanding performance awards and honor awards including the Administrator's Superior Achievement Award in 2002.
