FEDSIM Awards $42 Million Information Technology Task Orderto SRA International, Inc.GSA #9505 July 30, 1998
GSA's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM), a program of the Federal Technology Service (FTS) made the award using the FEDSIM multiple award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracting vehicle. FEDSIM's team of contracting and information technology professionals worked with the OIMC staff in developing technical specifications, procurement documentation, and project deliverables. Using FEDSIM's innovative MAIQ contracting vehicle, the GAO OIMC project was awarded in less than 11 weeks with a significant reduction in overall procurement costs. FEDSIM is supporting the entire GAO communications environment, both at headquarters and in field offices. GAO's communications infrastructure consists of routers, concentrators, and many miles of fiber optic and copper cabling that support nearly 5,000 users and over 60 servers in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. In addition, wide area network services are provided to the GAO's 16 field offices and audit sites located across the United States. Software engineering support will also be provided by FEDSIM to the Advanced Technology Center within the OIMC. This broad-based initiative will entail supporting the sophisticated and often complex data and security requirements of the GAO professional staff. FEDSIM, in close coordination with GAO, will employ an evolutionary approach to developing capabilities in SyBase, Oracle, and SAS using the full range of engineering techniques and CASE tools. Under the task order, FEDSIM will operate and maintain the GAO OIMC metropolitan area network, conduct risk analyses and security reviews, provide appropriate network upgrades, and implement other safeguards as necessary over the next five years.
