Prospective Guides Trained for Lebanon Mountain Trail

August 17, 2007

Fifty prospective local guides for the newly marked Lebanon Mountain Trail learned proper guiding skills in two outdoor workshops in July. Their enthusiasm and the commitment of villagers along the trail demonstrate the determination of Lebanon’s mountain communities to conserve their unique natural and cultural heritage.

The Lebanon Mountain Trail project receives core funding from the American people through USAID and is carried out by ECODIT in collaboration with Lebanese tour operators. The project has delineated a 400 km national hiking trail that connects more than 75 towns and villages. It also conducts training workshops that improve local residents’ skills in maintaining and promoting the trail, and strengthen rural entrepreneurship and tourism.
