Administrator Perry Appoints Jameson to Head GSA CommunicationsGSA # 9916 December 10, 2001 WASHINGTON, D.C. - During a special ceremony this morning, Mary Joy (MJ) Jameson of South Carolina was sworn-in by Stephen A. Perry, head of the U.S. General Services Administration, as GSA's Associate Administrator of Communications. Her position is effective today. "MJ is a strong and media-savvy communications professional whose many years experience in government service and in the private sector will be a tremendous asset to our leadership team," Mr. Perry said. "I have no doubt she'll be invaluable in directing our communications and public affairs efforts." In her role as principal communications executive for the agency, Ms. Jameson will serve as GSA's primary spokeswoman and will advise the Administrator on communications and all matters of general public interest. Ms. Jameson will be responsible for all facets of external and internal communications for the agency and will direct programs for media and public relations. Additionally, she will be responsible for the development of strong community relations programs relating to high-priority events and issues concerning GSA around the nation. Ms. Jameson has held several senior level communications positions during her 20-year career, serving as senior vice president with the public relations firm Burson-Marsteller, vice president of communications at American Forest & Paper Association, special assistant to the ambassador at the U.S. Embassy in Paris and director of public affairs/press secretary for the U.S. Department of Energy. "It is a great privilege and honor to be part of President Bush's Administration and I am proud and appreciative of the confidence Administrator Perry has placed upon me by appointing me to this position," she said. Ms. Jameson graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science from Clemson University in 1977. GSA is a centralized federal procurement and property management agency created by Congress to improve government efficiency and help federal agencies better serve the public. It acquires, on behalf of federal agencies, office space, equipment, telecommunications, information technology, supplies and services. GSA, comprised of 14,000 associates, provides services and solutions for the office operations of over 1 million federal workers located in 8,300 government -owned and leased buildings in 1,600 U.S. communities.
