Research Project: IN-DEPTH EVAL. OF NEMATODE POPULATION RESURGENCE IN ON-FARM DEMONSTRATION TRIALS FOR ALT. FUMIGANTS IN ORNAMENTAL CROP PRODUCTION IN FL

Location: Subtropical Plant Pathology Research

Project Number: 0500-00044-020-13
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: May 23, 2008
End Date: May 23, 2009

Objective:
To more closely identify movement and resurgence of nematode populations in on-farm demonstration trials.

Approach:
The research trials are to be conducted in two locations over two cropping cycles. Two crops will be studied, one at each location. Trials on delphinium will be in Hobe Sound, FL, and trials on caladium will be in Zolfo Springs, FL. Treatments at each location will be similar. Research will focus on the use of methyl iodide (MIDAS), and dimethyl disulfide (Paladin) as alternatives to methyl bromide. In small-scale trials, these materials have given the most broad-spectrum control and provided the weed and off-cultivar control that are of critical importance to the growers of these ornamental commodities. Methyl bromide controls and experimental materials will be applied by commercial custom applicators.
