UST Program Priorities

If not properly maintained, underground storage tanks (USTs) can harm human health and the environment by leaking or allowing spills or overflows into the soil and groundwater. The goal of the UST program is to prevent, detect, and cleanup releases from USTs containing petroleum or hazardous substance.

To find more information regarding an UST/LUST site, visit our Region 5's State Tank Databases Page.

The UST/LUST regulation (40 CFR Parts 280, 281 and 282) are authorized under Subtitle I of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).

For more information regarding the UST/LUST program visit the Office of Underground Storage Tanks (OUST).
